Projects as PI Outcome
1 Analysis of factors responsible for variation in cocoon yield from different sources of CSR double hybrid - silkworm Seed, Bombyx mori L. (PAM - PILOT - 1) There may be multiple factors for overall success of cocoon crop; however study reveals that if other factors are considered, major contributing factor for yield variation under subtropical condition of Jammu (J&K) are seed quantity i.e. wt. of silkworm seed for a unit of 100 dfls and true hybrid character of silkworm seed supplied to rearers.
2 Identification and screening of superior bivoltine silkworm, Bombyx mori L. breeds for nutrigenetic traits under subtropical condition of North West India (AIP-3625) Eighteen breeds procured for the study from different sources, the data from overall rearing nutrigenetic traits utilized as index. Eight bivoltine silkworm breeds (B.con 1, B.con 4, BHR 2, ATR 16, BHR 3, CSR 50, RSJ 14 and NB4D2) were identified as having the potential for nutrition efficiency conversion compared to other breeds selected for the study.
Projects as Co-PI
1 Evaluation and identification of superior BmNPV tolerant bivoltine hybrids of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. (AIB-3569) Out of twenty hybrids evaluated during spring and autumn season at Jammu region, three hybrids shortlisted for spring season (Pam DR 9 × Pam DR 18, Pam DR 1 × Pam DR 8 and Pam DR 7 × Pam DR 8) and two hybrids for autumn season (Pam DR 7 × Pam DR 8 and Pam DR 9 × Pam DR 18).
2 Innovative approach for multiple cocoon crops and stabilization of autumn crop in North-West India (MOE03001SI) Hybrid was shortlisted for Field trial (SH6×NB4D2) and brushing dates identified viz., First week of March for spring crop, third week of June for summer crop and second–third week of September for autumn crop.
3 Evaluation of Bivoltine Silkworm Genetic Resources for Tolerance to Abiotic Stress in Selected Hotspot (AIE-06002MI) The analyzed results clearly revealed the better performing oval and dumbbell bivoltine accessions namely BBI-0339 [DD-2], BBE-0184 [SMGS-2], BBI-0301 [YS-7], BBI-0338 [DD-1], BBI-0336 [APS-8] (dumbbell).
4 Development of drought tolerant mulberry genotype for rainfed hill farming under North West India (PIB 3629) On yield and drought tolerance characters, 23 hybrids belonging to twelve different cross combinations of mulberry hybrid progenies were selected under Progeny Row Trial (PRT) for evaluation under PYT.
